Poonam Suryanarayan

I am an Engineering Manager II (M2) at Cruise, an autonomous vehicle subsidiary of GM. I lead a team of ML Engineers and am responsible for AV Behavior and decision making for all nominal driving scenarios.

Previously, I have been the Tech Lead at Waymo for all things Machine Learning for Motion Planning and Tech Lead of Ad Auctions at Google Display Ads. I was also an intern at Google Research, Telefonica Research and HP Labs and worked on various Machine Learning and Computer Vision projects.

Before joining industry I was a Graduate Student at The Pennsylvania State University majoring in Electrical Engineering and Information Science and Technology. I worked with Prof. James Wang. My academic interests include broad areas of Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition.

Expertise 12+ years of Large Scale Machine Learning experience in Industry applied to Advertising, Autonomous Vehicles, Robotics, Computer Vision / Images and Videos.

I am currently a Graduate Student at The Pennsylvania State University majoring in Electrical Engineering and Information Science and Technology. I completed my Bachelors in Electronics and Communication from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (NITK), formerly KREC in 2008.

I work with Prof. James Wang . Our research group specializes in modeling objects, concepts and aesthetics in image. My academic interests include broad areas of Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition.
